Default How much oil

Hi guys
Going to be doing my own oil/filter change and need some advice.
I hear ppl talking about pre filing the oil filter and the subaru impreza capacity being 4.5 litres. I have just bought some silkoline pro s 5w40 in a 5 litre drum so my question is the 4.5 litres does that include pre filing the filter or do i put the 4.5 litres into the engine and the remaining half litre into the filter?

cheers

Fill the filter up just short of the threads and watch as it magically disappears (well, wicks into the filter medium!). Keep topping it up just short of the threads until it no longer drops. You'll be surprised how much it'll take.

Stick the filter on and then fill the sump until it's at the upper hole - and at that point do the crank sensor disconnect/oil prime process - which one presumes you've also read about. Then, once you've reconnected the sensor and run the engine a bit, check the oil level again and top it to the upper hole again.

you put as much into the engine as it takes to fill it to the full mark. dont just measure in 4.5 litres otherwise you could over fill. but yes as a rule 4.5l for complete system
