with octane booster 1ml per litre of fuel. remember these cars are tuned to run with jap 100 ron fuel. if you are running SUL 97 ron or shell V power you will have to drive it off boost most of the time and you will be fine. you will probably be fine anyway but i would get it checked to see if the car is prone to detonation when on boost.

97+
The early cars were never mapped to run on 100 RON fuel as it wasn't on general release in Japan until the version 5/6 STIs.

However if your cars ecu has a jap chip in it then run it with Tescos 99RON or V Power.

damn you Tony

Yes the Z4 map is very similar to the PPP (prodrive performance package) and they recommended using 97 RON fuel.

BP Ultimate is a fuel that for some reason doesn't generally agree with imprezas.

I've used Optimax,V power,Tescos 97 and 99,Total Excellium in my old 93 wrx and it liked all of them (the Total fuel though it seemed to like most though)

as above with the fuel, in the last fuel "crisis" in 2005 i could only getbp ultimate so put that in, mods at the time were only a cat back exhaust, the car detted wildly on that fuel since then i have never used it, the only fuel i used since were v-power and esso super, car ran very well on both.

if you are stuck you should get some octane booster, now you are running 97 have you reset your ecu?

What fuel are UK Subaru Imprezas suppose to run on?

What can happen if you don't use the correct fuel?

Thanks,
Sam Rogers

the wrong RON rating can cause engine damage due to detonation.

Classic UK Imprezas can run on 95 ,but as i mentioned earlier Prodrive recommended 97 for their PPP but imo you should run them 97+ anyway.

Newage cars i think have 95 RON for WRXs and 98 RON for STIs but ,once again, imo you should run them on the best SUL you can get.

esso "water down" there standard unleaded fuel, not sure if you knew that or not? Or they used to not sure if they do now.

However, there was a big blow up about it as I believe it damaged some cars engines etc even the super unleaded iirc.

I Noticed I got terrible fuel consumption whenever I filled up there, yet was much better at tesco for example.

Same here - when using BPU, my Commander's knock reading was way above 'normal' on all loads, even when off boost!

Yeah, I tend to use V-Power when possible (if not it's any 97)... other the BPU, of course!

But my car's been mapped on 97 RON though - and the PFC can't retard timing - so have to use 97 or better...
