Default Mapping Extra's?

Hey,

having the car mapped next week (03 STi) and just wondered if there are any 'extra's I should look at having/inquiring about? such as launch control...I heard there such things as limiting boost while the coolant isn't upto temperature but is this for open source or ECUTEk maps? Race Dynamix is doing mine so will be open source.

thanks,

Bit of negative timing so you get overrun (pops and bangs) when coming down the gears. I also get flames when accelrating enthusiastically

Have a word with your mapper. Don't know whether anything has changed but when last I paid attention, the "launch control" offered by the OS brotherhood was nothing more than a stepped rev limit that is instigated with roadspeed = 0. If so that's not real LC by any stretch and only marginally more useful than a chocolate condom.

As with the artificial pops and bangs as mentioned above, more about show than go.

hey,

yeah I know it's not a genuine launch control but,got to be fun! I'll only ever use it in the wet,for fear of snapping drive shafts etc...

I just can't get enough of this video...

put in a rev limiter at whatever RPM you desire...which then allows full RPM when going above 7MPH..basically...I'm no mapper tho.

i wouldnt bother with the launch control.i have it on mine and its ok for a while till the novelty weres off,but if you are going to use it properly for such as drag racing its a pain in the ***,as it will need to be set at different levels for different surfaces, tyre compound.i had mine set at 5500rpm which worked ok on normal roads, but when i got to the quarter mile were it was a bit more sticky it was just bogging down and found i was having to ride the clutch a little for a good launch.

Its not really limiting boost by coolant temp you need, you should always let the oil warm up before giving any real load/boost.

You have the coolant temp gauge in front of you and oil temp always takes longer than the coolant to come up to temp - so I would just take it easy til the car is up to temp.

It is easy enough to enforce it in the map though if you wanted.
