Default Engine Bay Colour - Different?

I went to look at a 2001 WRX today which was a straight blue colour but the engine bay was a flat dark blue colour. Is this normal?

I know the front has been painted but it didnt look like the rest had been....?

Same colours as in this pic, notice the slam panel and inside of wings.... normal?

One of the 'worst' cars for this sort of thing was the old Pug 205. The slam panel was in primer beige. I didn't know this was OEM, and it prevented me from buying what would have been a perfectly nice little GTI 1.9. I thought it'd been in a front-ender!!!

Can be confusing when not in the know.

Its always difficult isnt it. The one i saw today was mint but had clearly had paint on the front. HPI clear tho and it looked asthough it had been painted with everything in place and I called the dealer that had sold the car to the guy and they reckoned they probably would have blown over the front when they had it to clear up paint chips...... theres always a doubt tho isnt there. Do I stay safe or just throw £4K at it and take a risk..... Dilemma

At 4k youre worried about the front end having overspray on it??? and the previous dealer has told you it was probably stone chip repairs!!

Hmm, maybe you should buy a new one!

Nah, found it in the paper. 79K Part SSH (5 stamps) decatted with performance exhaust..... is the most expensive car ive bought so is a big thing for me. In the grand scheme of things though its really not is it, a lot to spend.

My blue 02 wrx is the same - slightly darker in the engine bay. Glad I came across your post coz it worried me a little also - now it seems this is completely normal. Buy with confidence if your happy with the car I think.

As everyone says the dark / flat blue engine bay is normal. If it looks clean and not thrashed then the WRX is a good buy as the power was reigned to 215 PS so leaving the engine and transmission pretty unstressed.
