Exclamation Bonnet won't close

53 plate Blobeye, I opened the bonnet but when I closed it again the lever didn't seem to 'reset' itself, it feels as though it's constantly pulled. The bonnet doesn't lock into place either, but is only held shut by the latch.

Any idea what I need to do?

Got the same problem with my MY53 WRX. I took the catch off - had to remove the grill to get at the three bolts in order to remove it. Could not find any actual fault but re-greased and oiled and when I refitted - it work ok.

Hope that helps :-)

Which bit of it did you degrease? All of it?

Is it the catch that's faulty or the lever?

Cheeeeeeeers!

I didn't find a fault as such. I just took the catch off (need to unclip the plastic grill first which can be a pain) and oiled and greased it. When I put it back on - it worked fine.

You may find an actual problem with yours but it might also just work for you as well.

Have you checked your bonnet release handle has retracted?

Sometimes they stay in the open position.

... Following on from Steve001 and Boro, give it a large dose of WD40 then move it in and out plenty of times. Use further doses of WD40 and repeat as necessary. Eventually the lock will move in and out smoother than 007. Then apply grease - or, if problematic, stay on top of it by applying 3-in-1 every month or so...

The last thing you want is the catch not to fully engage after working in the engine bay... only then for the bonnet to fly up when driving causing untold damage - quite apart from it being a dangerous and terrifying prospect!

i know it may sound a bit daft but did you have anyone else working near the car while you were under the bonnet?

they are to black rubbers on the left and right hand side of the engine bay on my bugeye which you can twist.

doesnt look they do anything however as i found when my bro was playing with it, they actually raise stopping the bonnet from closing.

just need to turn them again to lower them, lol i spent 10 mins trying to figure out what was wrong, eventually slammed it hard and it shut with one side still up !

i thought **** i broke it lol they must be a tool underneath, then realised it was the rubber.
