Default another overheating question

my stupid friend has been running his classic waggon with little or no antifreeze and with the weather being as it is it now f***ed.

the header tank has erupted its brownish cruddy water all over the o/s side of the engine bay and now it wont run without missing its nackers off.

he complaind of a burning smell before it overheated

ive done a cel check and it threw up a 21 (coolant sensor), the dip stick is still showing oil and not mayonaise and the coolant system is bone dry.

im thinking head gasket and possibly water pump failure but will it cause any damage to the bottom end/pistons or cdb

thanks in advance Dave

ha, no worries it's easily done. At least you got a real word and spelled it correctly, which is more than can be said for many!

no the engine is still free and moving ok, it will sort of run/tick over but as soon as the throttle is increased it dies.

im not sure how long he has driven it since it over heated. if it was just a simple over heating then head gasket would sort it, but with it missing poping and farting im thinking there are more underlying issues like warped heads cracked liners or melted pistons

no i dont this is why im asking, is a bit of a long story but im thinking of buying the car from him cheap to break it and the cdb is the most valuable part of the car, the rest is crap. just dont want to risk it and find the block is mush.
