Default Anyone used Halfords 5w50 oil?

Hi chaps, im due to do my 1000 mile oil change on my rebuilt engine in the new year, iv been running it on bog standard 15w40 mineral oil up to this point, but am going to mobil super s 10w-40 ss at 1k, then at 3k im changeing to a fully synthetic 50 grade, iv seen halfords do a 5w50 fs race oil for around £34.99, and it looks like pretty good stuff, i was gonna use mobil 1 15w-50 fs, but halfords fs is a 5w grade meaning it has better cold start properties has anyone used it and have any views on it?

ps forgot to add the car is a import sti v3 my97.

im not after it because it cheaper than mobil 1 but the fact it has a 5w rating, and if u dont mind me asking how would using halfords 5w50 be causing a major rebuild?

Have used the halfords 5w50 racetrack day oil for years with no probs on a 93wrx and 2002sti , just always have used a genuine subaru oil filter and pre-filled oil filter before fitting to car .

do u use it for road use, since this weather is getting baltic, i was thinking that the 5w grade would be ideal, and since i do regular motorway runs the 50 would also be ideal, am i right in thinking this?

Never used Halfords oil and TBH I wouldn't risk it with my re-built engine just in case. I've been using 15W/50 Mobil 1 motorsport oil in my96 JDM WRX since its full re-build 12,000+ miles ago and that's what I'd recommend. It's the life blood of the engine IMO so I'm not willing to try anything less than Mobil 1.
Halfords did have an offer on when I last went in (early Dec) and 5 litres of Mobil 1 15W/50 was £38.99 instead of the usual £48.99 which is a good saving really.

Another RCM serviced car here
Silkolene Pro R 15w 50. I dont do **** oil changed though and since my car spends 99.99% of its time at 30 - 40 mph, it gets changed every 10k as well. I dont see any need whatsoever for oil changes every monday! LOLOLOL

if your unsure use mobil one 15 50w, tried and tested, ive used it in loads of high power engines. NEVER had a problem, wont use anything else, after using halfords 5 50 full sythetic for ONE oil change because they had no mobil, 2 weeks later big end rattle. never again

i use millers 10w50 or the new 10w 60, i think 5w is a bit thin and 15 a bit thick when cold but everyone has a different opinion so i`m sticking to what works for me

oil dont cause the big end to go, its down to other things like the weak oil pumps, or not doing the oil change correctly causing metal to metal contact.

the oil will always be in the sump so the metal will always have a film of oil on the parts, the oil itself wont cause big end damage
