Sometimes the seal becomes compromised where the boot rubber goes on to the metal seam of the boot opening. As the water run off is in the same place it can overwhelm the rubber and drip from top left nearest the rear light. Lights in them selves can be the cause if the foam weather strip is old as indeed can dodgy spoiler fixings.

Oddly enough my car is returning to the main dealer for this very issue also. They've already had the spoiler off and re sealed that, but I'm still getting a pool developing in the wheel jack cubby hole and a puddle on the mat. I think the body shop guy is gonna whipe out the light cluster next and do that.

Seal the boot rubber seal to the lip and reseal around the rear light clusters with a none setting sealant.

ive got a 04 sti and had the same problem but it was the rear window seal that was leaking, check it with a hose point the water under the rear window and then check for water dripping in then if so get any car window fitter to take it out clean it then re-seal it, takes no more than 20mins for them to do it.

Hope this helps.

ok seems its still leaking i applied some sealant, maybe not good enough.

its not a major leak, boot carpet just gets damp.. however the car does steam up after a wash (all 4 windows) which makes me think there is a leak elsewhere 2..

but i cant see it, only place i know of is the boot!

anyway going to take it off and re-apply properly this weekend. anyone recommend some good sealant?

Yes: Carafax grey, available from caravan dealers and some branches of Halfords.

It's a non-setting mastic type, made for caravan panels that stand outside all year round, but need to be removed for maintenance.

DO NOT use silicone or Tiger seal etc.

As above: likely suspect areas are lights seal to body, under the boot rubber seal and rear screen base.

just a thought,i tried this on my mini i had years ago and worked a treat.

mix up some water and bright food colouring and pour over suspect area and you should see a colour trail from where the leak starts.this is good for coolant leaks also.
