Default Make UK Classic run same power as JDM

Ive had a search of the forum, but didnt find much, but my mate has just got a UK classic facelift, and i know they don't run the same sort of power as the JDM's, so how can he go about getting the same sort of power.

Would just replacing the ECU from a JDM up the power, or can you not do this on a UK model?

Simple answer is you cant do this, there are differences (turbo for one, map for the other) so depending what year car it is, you will have to either purchase and have mapped an after market ecu or have the standard ecu mapped for more power (all with supporting modifications).

What sort of search terms were you using? There's plenty of suitable threads for your delectation.

No.

or can you not do this on a UK model?
Sure, you can do it. It'll either run like a turd or lunch itself, for reasons already outlined above.

your mate will need a full decat exhaust from the turbo back, panel filter, and a remap using the ecutek software on his existing ecu if it is a late model classic. this should see power up to circa 260-270bhp, u may also want to get a walbro fuel pump. you could then look at a bigger turbo to get up to the 300bhp mark. of course u will also then need to look at bigger brakes, suspension etc.

I thought splitpins was very helpful, correct and to the point.

You could run a JDM ecu but it is set up for a JDM cars which is different and run on different (higher octane) fuel. Even if it felt good it wouldnt be long before it killed itself.

Aftermarket ECU for yours is the only option.

On the contrary, my reply was helpful in that it was both factually correct, and encouraged you to have another stab at the search button, which will lead you to some good info. I'd be interested to hear exactly why you consider it unhelpful.

It depends on the year of the car. A pre 96 UK car with a td05 turbo will quite happily run a Z4 ecu as long as you fill up will V-power / tesco 99. This will take it up from the 215bhp standard to the 256bhp of the WRX. After 1996 there were turbo changes, I think the UK ran a td04 while the JDM's carried on with the td05 for longer, then went to the VF series.

Edit: Just seen 'facelift' so post 1996 car. So 1996-98 will need aftermarket ecu, 1990-2000 ecutek re-map required. Either way then before you do a remap best do other mods first to get the best value.

My UK Turbo is running 320.4bhp and has been for well over a year with no issues at all but like the others said you need to consider all the mods 1st and then get it mapped at the same time...
Although it is the later UK classic with the mapable Ecutek ECU.
