Default turbo swap lower oil feed securing!

guys, when you swap a turbo how did you re-secure the bottom pipe onto the oil return? it has a standard clippy thing, but how are you meant to re-attach this whilst putting the turbo back on?

any ideas would be appreciated!

Few ways to skin that one. First thing to remember is to put the pipe back on before you bolt the turbo down. As far as the clips are concerned, a very long spindly pair of pliers comes in handy. Or you can put a little tie-wrap round the clip to hold it open, and then snip it off when you've got everything back in position.

Fit the rubber section to sump drain first with jubilee clip instead of spring clip.
Then locate oil drain pipe from turbo into rubber pipe. No clip needed for that.
Just make sure rubber clip is mounted high enough - I find having it level with the turbo support bracket is fine.

I changed the oil feed banjo bolt on my 20G to a normal type with 4 big holes rather than the single 1mm pinhole. You can't get an M12 banjo bolt with the 1mm hole in it unless you order from Japan although there are plenty of M10 banjo bolts with the 1mm hole in the UK. If anyone has a link to somewhere in the UK i can get the M12 ones that would be usefull.

Because it flows a lot more oil than the OEM type banjo bolt there is a lot more oil passing through the oil return pipe and it subsequently leaks like a goodun so...

Firstly i attached the return hose with a good jubilee clip to the return pipe on the turbo. Slipped another jubilee clip over the other end of the retun hose and slipped it over the return pipe engine side. Bit fiddly but OK.

As the downpipe is off i am free to get a long skinny rachet extension bar and socket onto the bottom jubilee clip to tighten it up. No more leaks!! Obviously when you come to take the turbo off again you drop the downpipe first then undo the bottom jubilee clip and the return hose slips off the return pipe engine side attached to the turbo. Done this a few times now so it's second nature.

with great difficults and lots of shouting and screaming!

But the way i have done it. 10 times now. is to leave the pipe on the engine and then manipulate the turbo into the return pipe and then onto the intake pipe and up pipe.

it is a little difficult but you will manage after your hand is bleeding in atleast 3 places. lol. (only joking about the bleeding but i aint about the swearing)

jubilee on the bottom return to the engine and a lovely spring clip on the top of this hose to the turbo. Just need to make sure the oil drain is on the top of this and then just push down and it will pop the spring clip open and secure itself.
