Default help! someone must know what to do???

hi

i have a v1 wrx sti acropolis special and its missing and havent got a clue what is causing it ? i have changed and gapped spark plugs, and changed the coil packs , there is no code on engine light but is still missing? runs ever so slightly lumpy if you listen carefully n idle but if you hold revs for instance at 1200 rpm it definately misses but not continuously more of a random miss? when driving its fine but just dont want it to cause damage as i no these engines are quite delicate someone please help as do not no what to do anymore.

any advice will try strait away as i need it sorted

thanks james

Get a Compression check and a cylinder leak-down test done on the engine James - that will tell you if its an internal problem causing the misfire or if all is ok internally.

Could be something simple like an air pipe perished/cracked due to the cold weather. Also check that all the intercooler pipes are tight and not leaking.

My mates v1 (1/200 in the other thread) he had a bit of missing, but sometimes his CEL would come on... He ended up having to replace the head gaskets... also his MAF doesnt appear to be in the best condition, and he says he doesnt have enough money to replace it... oh well, its his car's funeral...

So yeah, give the MAF a look.

If it is compression you can usually hear it when you turn it on the starter.

CEL means Check Engine Light

My mate was getting steam/smoke coming out from under the bonnet when he gave it some beans..... so you might be lucky enough not to have HG failure....

But definitely get the MAF checked out
