front mounted turbo
i am building a car with approximately 500 bhp in mind. i've had my closed deck engine fully forged built and have just got it back. i am wondering whether i would gain much by mounting the turbo at the front of the engine. i've seen it done and looked at the work involved and seemed to be reasonably straight forward. the question is would i gain performance wise though?

You would gain in both power and spool, complete custom pipework. Is this a road car or a track car??? As I wouldn't like to have a front mount turbo as a road car as I'm not sure how legal it would be for getting thru any MOT's. If your not used to a 500bhp car why bother with front mount as normal rotated position may give you a shock

its mainly going to be a track/drag car. i found it would be cheaper for me to make it front mount turbo too. the only arkward part would be to link up to the exhaust system so it exited at the back of the car, so not too loud. i have got the TSL firestorm box on at the min, but exiting straight out the front bumper would be taking the p%^s.

i've just been looking on the net and it seems like exiting the exhaust from the front bumper is the way forward. but would need to try and get a silencer in there too. as on zen performance's time attack car.

To the OP front mounting the turbo is by no means "Easy", it takes alot of carefull planning, as mentioned above you come across various problems not to mention its all custom made and can be costly.
With that said you can still run a rear exit exhaust if you really wanted to. The subframe would need modifying to allow the exhaust to run where the current upipe is, from there it can follow the same route.

in fact bigest problem for me is how to get oil back in sump from tubo...because drop from turbo to sump is not enaught for free flow (((
thats a defo different approach! be interested to see it in action after!
i spoke to zen and they used a pump to help with oil issuses. although i can't remember what they called it now, but get in contact with them sure they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

i've just got my engine back and sat it back in the bay. i was looking at that to see how much space i've got there. i keep going back to the rear exit idea as not sure what police will say if they stop me and they see my exhaust coming out of the front bumper? as it needs to be used on the road too!
