Default Retro fitting AVCS heads?

I think I would like to try and reto fit some AVCS to my 98 Impreza, mainly to get better spool.

I use the car on the road, but also for our local hill climb, and a few track events. As such, spool is very important to me, as there are lots of hairpins etc.

I may also change to a twin scroll turbo at a later date as well for a similar reason, but I digress.

Car is running a Simtek, FMIC, oil cooler etc, and a baby TD04 (which will be changed). Brakes, suspension and safety also done.

I have seen some heads being advertised with an AVCS controller, but will the Simtek run them?

Alternatively, am I barking up the wrong tree for faster spool? I think 350 is going to be about right for the hillclimb, as much more and its going to be tricky keeping it on boost.

Cheers

Grant

Last I heard, SimTek didn't control them.

Not sure if anything has changed since.

Solaris will work though.

A quick Google and it seems it does

(I have a vested interest as my mapper's advised that I *might* have to upgrade the ECU on my '05 STi when I get the 450-500bhp turbo fitted, and Simtek is the most likely choice )

Handy if it does! For what its worth, very pleased with the Simtek- I will ask JGM.

Anyone actually done this mod? Be interested in views from people who have.

The lighter classics have less need for the help from AVCS (IMHO), so most just avoid the extra complexity......

P.S. I do have to admit that classic owners that fit a VF35 from a V7STI (& onwards), do say they are laggy without AVCS......

i'm looking at doing this next year, i'm sure jgm told me the simtek will have to go back to be modded to run the avcs heads but no biggy.

massive bennefits to be gained i think, you can also get an adaptor so you can use your v4 manifold with them as the throttle is different on the newage.

Slight change of tack- hoping to go twin scroll first, then think about the heads.

I have AVCS heads to go in a classic, I'll be running them without variable timing as have an Apexi at present...I'll be upgrading to a solaris so I can run the AVCS (amongst other things ), as far as I am aware Simtek does not control AVCS but it is being developed to do so. hth.

That's the better way to do it, as you'll benefit far more from the spool ability of the TS turbo than you will from AVCS - which is likely to be problematic on a '98MY car anyway due to the inlet manifold incompatibility.
