Default Engine Stands

Hi all am planning to do bit of work on a scooby engine. Does anyone know if a standard engine stand would be suitable to mount the engine on? thanks

What's a "standard engine stand"? If you mean the sort with four poseable arms through which you thread the gearbox mounting bolts/studs, then yes, those work fine. Even better if the engine can be rotated once fixed to the stand. The slightly trickier bit is getting it out (and back in) to the car, although for that you can rent a crane for not very much money.

I use a Sealeys engine stand, which is rotatable. Just have a look on ebay they're about £50.

Should be able to get one for less than £50. £40.24 here, if you have a Machine Mart nearby.

They are great for working on a short motor that's already assembled. i.e once you get to the putting heads and ancilliaries on but little use until that point.

This is just what you need. It's been a incredibly useful since I bought mine.

Do you need a engine crane to lift the short motor onto the stand?

That Sealey stand is exactly the same as the Machine Mart one Daz, they obviously all come from Engine Stand City in northwest Shenzen, or wherever tf they're made, and vary just with the sticker and sometimes the colour.

If you're taking the engine out of the car prior to putting it on the stand, yes. If you're taking the lump off a pallet or crate then you could do it with two people to lift it and a third to bolt it up - but you'll still need the crane to put it in the car.
