Default Strange grinding on full lock

The rear diff on my classic has been whining for a while now, and i have ordered a new one, for it to be fitted on Monday. BUT, yesterday whilst parking the car it was grinding and slowing down when on full lock, both ways. It sounded like it was coming from the rear. Could this be the diff giving up completely? When i straightened up it seamed to ease off. I have decided to stop driving it to avoid damage to gearbox?

Any help would be great, cheers

Grinding on full lock would normally indicate to me wheel bearing or CV joint....

Possible wheel bearing but hard to say from your description. There may be no apparent play but it is still a wheel bearing.
Other possibility is that your diff is locking up.

It is a kind of grinding and chattering noise and the car vibrates. It feels like the handbrake is on too, then when you straighten up it goes away

I had that just before the power steering failed on my car. Started as grinding only on full lock - was fine at small steering angles and then gradually worsened across the whole range of steering before it finally failed completely over about 40 miles. I then had a 10 mile drive when I had to make like the hulk just to get the steering wheel turned...

Check your power steering fluid levels to eliminate

Its def comming from the rear so not sure it would be the power steering?

Gonna get both rear wheel bearings changed and the brakes replaced all round when i get the diff done on Monday. Hopefully that will eliminate the problem lol
