That's actually pointing at 400rpm! I think it should idle at between 750-850rpm (from memory, my 1993 WRX idles between 800-850). Thing is, your tach might not be all that accurate(?).

At 400rpm, it'll prob feel like it'll want to stall - do you 'feel' that it wants to? Does your foot instinctively hover over the throttle ready to blip, etc.?

No it isn't, it's pointing at about 730-750rpm. Normal (for hot idle) in other words.

Argh, I've fallen into a trap.

That shorter 2nd thick bar is representing 500rpm, and not 0, right? (I should have looked at the scaling further on - then I'd've realised).

So yeah, 700+ should be about the ballpark at steady, warmed-up idle.

no it sounds fine not wanting to stall at all but all my previously tuned cars idle is around 900-1k ect.. to keep oil pressure up. just wondered really

Normal hot idle is specified as 800+-50 if I remember right. You can change the idle speed electronically via a select monitor (or emulator) but assuming there's nothing wrong with your oil pump to start with, there's no need.
