Does Anyone Know a Man Who
Hi,I recently had a standard replacement ecu fitted to my 2002 WRX.The ecu came with a key chip which I fitted to my key and this works fine.I've been to 2 Subaru garages to get the spare key coded without success.Culverwells were very helpfull, but didn't really know why the key wouldn't code.Their programme showed " Key program NG,key not registered. Both garages suggested buying a new key with a blank chip at a cost of appox £150,but wouldn't guarantee this would work.I'd still have to pay the £150.Anyone any ideas,Thanks Terry

i may be wrong but I think the key codes are fixed and can not be changed when they are programed to work with the new ecu its the ecu program that is changed to reconise the code in the keys. you having two different codes in the two different keys could be the problem.
I replaced my ecu with a prodrive one on my 04 wrx and had to get my keys done to start the engine but I recently pluged my old ecu back in and the keys worked with the old ecu aswell. suggesting that its the ecu program thats changed rather than the key.

I no longer have the old ecu or chip.Subaru think, but aren't sure, that if I order a new key(about £160) which comes with a blank chip, they should be able to code it?Problem is if they can't I still have to pay for the key!
