Default Mapping Software

I have heard that the software used to map determines the price. Is this correct? If this is right what are the pitfalls of using a cheaper option?

depends on what ecu you have and what mapping software you are aiming using
cheaper options are not always worse

For V1-V2 Classics there is ESL 'Live' full custom remapping and costs around £550+VAT

For V3-V4 Classics there are only aftermarket ECU's or chipping (generic only) at the moment although ESL are working on that one too and will have a solution sometime soon similar to V1-V2 Classics. Prices are variable and dependent on the solution.

For V5-V6 There is EcuTek at anywhere between £550-£650+VAT
For V7+ there is EcuTek at the same £550-£650+VAT or there is Open Source remapping at between £350-£450+VAT.

I say this every time i post about remaps or aftermarket ECU's. Regardless of the solution it's only as good as the tuner carrying out the remap!! If the tuner does a lousy job it will be a lousy drive. Fact!!

The software is the tool - its only ever as good as the person monitoring, checking and putting the maps together.

If only that were true, I've been waiting nearly 2 years now and still no V3 and 4 boards.

The annoying thing is they told me at one point they had the board finished and was getting it E approved, then they changed their mind and decided to re-make the board, very strange.

There won't be any customers left for the boards soon.

ESL solution for V.1-V.2 scoobs has been around a while and works very well. It's a proper live remapping tool where changes to maps are made on the fly while driving along so changes can be felt instantly. In some respects it's better than newage remap solutions because it doesn't take the mapper as long to do the remap and you don't have to keep stopping the car to reflash the ECU every time you want to make changes.

By the same token V.1-V.2 Classics are getting on a bit now both in terms of mileage and age and often have issues that require rectifying by the mapper before he can progress. It can be a pita as i found out recently!! Yes Duncan your words came true!!

You don't get so many issues with newage scoobs as the mileages are generally lower, have more than likely been looked after, more often than not have a full service history and of course are newer.

ESL 'Live'......Thoroughly recommended!!
