Overtaking on a dual carriageway on Wednesday, in 2nd gear about 4k rpm. Next thing the car loses power and I'm left with a car on my inside and not being able to go forwards. I pull over to the side and try to restart the engine. It starts for about two seconds but then cuts out. Got the car to the garage but no news as yet.

I've got an imported WRX 1999.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

 

Could be something as simple as your turbo hose; could be split or just blown off. I had the exact same thing happen to me one morning on the outside lane of the M11. Turbo hose had been blown off. I refitted it and everything has been fine since.

I've just had one of the guys at the garage tell me it's the electronic control unit gone wonky. They're fitting me a new one apparently.
