Default Classic cooling system.

Just a quick one if i may. So i climb into my car on a cold morning and fire her into life. As i am waiting for the engine to warm up the water pump is turning. Once warm enough the thermostat will open and the water will circulate thru the engine to the radiator and back to the engine and so on but before it is warm enough and the thermostat is closed what happens to the flow of water? Surely the water pump will still add pressure and want force the water thru the system.

Might be a easy question for someone out there, lend me some of your knowledge!

thermostat will open around 78/9 degrees do you think your coolant temp will drop below this when using the engine ?

although our thermostats are at the bottom of the block not the top as in this pic but you get the idea, the water flows only around the engine block and running underneath the thermostat warming it up slowly until its hot enough to open the thermostat and let it flow thru the rad
