Default Alloy Wheel Spacers?

Hi,

Just fitted some upgraded brakes, and my superleggeras dont quite fit. Ive put on a 5mm spacer which i had lying around, and i can get a 4mm allen key between the caliper and wheel. Meaning the caliper is about 1mm sticking out to much.

So. How much clearance should i leave between the caliper and alloy? Some places suggest 3mm?

At what width do i need longer studs?

Should i put the same on the rear to have an even track width even if its a 3/5mm spacer?

Cheers
c

I had to put spacers on mine as the calipers were virtually touching the backs of the spokes without them. I tested 3mm & 5mm & went for 3mm in the end & is fine (so in answer, I have about 3mm space between caliper/wheel on mine).

I don't know about your even track width question but I did put 3mm spacers front & back for my own OCD reasons !

Ahh ok cushti. rekon i might do the same.

Cheers chaps. Rekon ill go for the 3mm spacer which should keep my atelast 2mm clear and give me 2mm more thread on my nuts. I will do front n rear also.

As its so thin i dont think ill bother getting specific hub centric ones and go for universal. unless i can find hub centric ones for a similar price.

do the universal ones come with spigot rings to keep them central?
If not then you could have a wheel balance type problem feeling at speed if the spacer isnt centered.

I also preferred 3mm due to the seating of my wheel so I got more thread on my wheel nuts as well (5mm would be ok as I still got 5-6 full turns of the nut on the stud). I got hubcentric 3mm spacers for £15 per pr off this chap as they look good as well - universal ones are about £5-£6:

Ahh sweet. Cheers cushti!

Yeah ill go for hub centtric then if thats the price.

The generic ones dont have spigots, however they are design such that they are not off by much. Certainly not enough for me notice any imbalance. Stole mine off my bro's evo, the generic ones and didnt notice a problem, so im sure the univeral are ok for the thin ones. Id imagine as u get bigger, and heavier it may cause more of an issue...
