Default Map sensor

What does the map sensor do? My car appears to be running rich i think. I say this because when I have done some hard acceleration and lift off it pops a bit and sometimes backfires. I noticed the lambda sensor is quite bent I'm presuming it's meant to be straight? I was told by the previous owner that he had changed the airflow sensor but not had the ecu reset does this even need doing when you change things like this? I don't know anywhere I can take it around here I'm in southport near Liverpool. Please help. Cheers

The MAP sensor detects boost pressure.

Are you by any chance running a decat zorst, IK and or VTA DV as this causes pops and bangs.

More info need on your MY.

Sorry I shouldve said it's a uk turbo 2000 on a w reg it doesn't have a decat but has either a 3.5" or 4" stainless cat back system with a 4" tailpipe, a bailey motorsport D/V, and a Blitz induction kit.

Yeah the above 'mods' will cause the pops and bangs, nothing to worry about, just enjoy them. Some people pay to that mapped in.

The DV will cause you to run rich.

My advice is to remove the IK and refit the OE box with a KnN or Green panel before you need another MAF.
