Hello, The power steering on my 1995 import has started making a whining sound all the time now and it's doing my head in. It started off when you where on full lock but as i said its all the time. I have checked the fluid and its up to its level and clean.

What can I do to stop it, is there a bearing or something I can change

Claire, it sounds like it might be your power steering pump not putting out enough pressure , usually when they start to fail they whine and especially on full lock when the most pressure is required.

Usually renewing the pump is the only answer.

 

Renew the pump with a V3/4 pump claire its a better pump.

I believe theres a guide in the technical archives section if you fancy doing it yourself.

 

There is a guide and its very easy to do, did mine a few weeks ago. Was whining like yours, but mine was also leaking.

Where did you get a new pump from? How much are we talking?

 

I got a new pump off here, i put a thread in wanted and only took a day or so for me to get a response.

Have a look in for sale there might be one there already.

I think i paid £45 delivered, or there abouts.
