should have a little up and down movement but no movement when pushed in and out. Best to change gaskets for how much they are,

maybe im wrong but wouldnt using paste on gaskets in the up pipe possibly increase the risk of damage by debris/paste entering the mechanics?i guess its ok to use it from cat back.(debris in cats cause damage to elements).

bodge it job if ever I've heard one.

Save yourself a sh*t load of hassle and do the job properly. That means new upipe and down pipe gaskets and a remap.

If you dont do all of the above, expect problems!!!

Hi, I'm doing the very same. Same turbo, same MY99, did you get the oil pipes with your turbo? The water pipe I believe can be used from the TD04 so that's easy. Use new gaskets as said and you know all will be well. I am fitting a new de catted down pipe and a Walbro fuel pump (a must). I am having mine mapped by Bob Rawle and I am hoping for 320 ish. Let me know how you get on.

I've already fitted decat downpipe so the bolts will still be easy to get off heard that the upipe bolts are pretty hard to get to, gonna get it ecutek mapped by andy f

My car had a ppp fitted just wondering if they upgrade the fuel pump with this upgrade

We have the VF28 fitted to our MY00 track car... the downpipe needs to be removed to get to the up-pipe bolts, it's a bit tight but it's do-able!!

See the following thread for our results on standard (ish) engine with original headers... ;-)

What does that kind of power feel like does it pin you into the seat hard i bet

I was thinking of a fmic but dont know as i was told that also fitting an induction kit can damage the weak maf

It feels really good on the road/track, and pulls very well indeed!

We've only gone for a front mount, as the events we do mean a lot of sitting in stationary traffic waiting to get on track, so heat soak would have been an issue for us.

I would advise keeping the top mount untill it's necessary to change it, as you can get up to 350bhp with an uprated top mount, and you don't have to mess around with induction kits, which don't suit MY99-00 cars very well.

We have secured our induction kit really well to cut down on vibrations, and have gone with a recirc dump valve, so finger crossed the MAF should hold up.

You'll need a different oil banjo for the VF28 as the one for the vf28 has a small restrictor in it.

I squeezed 360bhp out of a VF28. The engine had just about everthing done to it and was ready for a bigger turbo.

On a prior occasion i managed 330 but that was with a 2.5in exhaust, 440 cc injectors ecutek and top mount ic.

The 360 run was done with a forged engine with 93mm pistons, 3 inch exhaust, 740cc injectors, front mount intercooler APS cold air induction and an Apexi Power FC.
Peak boost was 1.6bar

Both runs were done on Scooby Clinic rollers about 4 months apart.

The VF28 is a lovely turbo for a road car.

Hi Daz, I commented on this post a few days back as I am doing the same very soon. This oil banjo business is confusing me, maybe I'm a bit thick! Where does the banjo go? Is it fitted to the turbo. I have pipes on my VF28 and was told the only pipe I need is for the water and I can use the one from my Td04 for this. So do I need to get a bolt?

Cheers, sorry for the hijack.

The bolt you need to change is the one that connects the oil supply line to the cylinder head. Your VF28 should have come with its own supply pipe as a TD one doesn't fit properly - and if it came with its own lower banjo, then you should be set.

If not, the correct part number for the VF28 lower banjo bolt is 14445AA002. You can get this from a Subaru main dealer as it's a P1 part.
