Default Performance upgrades

Hi everybody, as you can see im new to scoobynet as i have just bought a 1995 WRX. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend some decent performance upgrades to do that wont bust my bank balance. I currently have an induction kit and a de-cat afterburner exhaust. Any advice is greatly recieved.

welcome mate, to start with unless you've got a front mounted intercooler fitted id remove the induction kit if you've still got the orginal airbox & fit a good panel filter, if you want to up the power next thing you'd need is a remap, esl live chip come highly recommended which are in the excess of £500 though fitted & mapped but dont forget uping the power means you need better brakes to match, late classic 4 pots are a good upgrade for the early classic & can be had relatively cheap, hope this helps, cheers Mark

Thanks mate i'll look into it. Also thought i might ask some other advise. When i got the car the owner told me it was running about 270-280 bhp, does this sound right. I thought it might be less but the car does feel very quick to me. Anyone know what sort of 0-60 time this would achieve. Many thanks

a 95 wrx runs about 240 to 250 standard so with upgrades prob another 5 to 10 bhp an if want full performance out of them a remap will do the job

Unless you have the z4 ECU which is mapped to 260bhp out of the box you'll be making around 240bhp as std. ESL Live remap is spot on and will be a custom remap specific to your car (£550-£650+VAT depending where you have it done). A chip will only give you a generic map, just like Prodrive does for newage scoobs. Every car is different and every map will need fine tuning to suit your mods specifically.

Unless you've uprated the injectors and turbo stick to the standard airbox with a decent flat panel air filter as has already been suggested. Get the ESL remap and you'll have a reasonably quick car that will see off most things. Add a newage top mount intercooler (easy conversion) and that will make the most of a decent remap with your current mods.

You don't have to go mad and spend a fortune to get decent power.

Spend £50ish on a rolling road printout/health check to find out how your car is running ,it's old so some bits may need replacing (plugs, coilpacks etc) before you start modding imo.
As for having a ST off the lights depends on what one it is (Fiesta or old Focus ST or new Focus ST) as they are quite tuneable as well and how unsympathetic you are to launching it

Which one of the many ST's? (Fiesta, ST170, ST24, ST220......) Probably have the latest turbo to 30, after that your toast as it has much better mid range!

I did try to race a focus ST but i missed 3rd gear as the spring has gone so you have to guess abit when going from 2nd to 3rd so it was a bit of a waste of time really. was quite surprised at how quick the ST was though considering they are front wheel drive and have 225bhp. i would of had him though i think if i just managed to select 3rd in time, never mind hey. thanks for the replys

Replace the spring go somewhere quiet and try a 4000 rpm launch i did this a couple of times in my 93wrx and **** me the car would accelerate liked a stabbed rat.

(don't do this if you have any concerns about your clutch or gearbox though )
