Default engine revs without touching throttle

Just cleaned and refitted my inlet manifold and breather pipes, was advised to do it as it was running like s**t, all fitted back in nicely connected everything tho it was 11pm by time I finished so there may be something unplugged

On turning the key the engine revs its B******ks off and stays above 3,000 rpm without going near the throttle, I cant really leave it running as it has a decat and I like my neighbours, is there something majorly obvious that I haven't plugged in, I have checked the throttle cable and butterfly valve etc all seems to be ok ??

thanks

Idle speed control valve would be the obvious - either the electrical connection or the pipework. If that's all okay then the inference is that your engine is drawing in air from somewhere it shouldn't. Check firstly that you've refitted the throttle cable properly. Beyond that, look for pipes you've forgotten to refit - the brake servo hose for example.

A pipe left off has to be the most obvious, that or the throttle wedged open.

you got this sorted yet?

I've used the likes of Easy Start while the engine was running sprayed around inlet manifold to head joints to check for air leaks at the gasket, always been pretty effective, never done or tried it on a subaru tho so not sure about access but cans with the straws attached usually got me in most places.

Seen me also use some WD40 if i had no Easy Start but tends to be a bit more messy by the nature of it.
