How can you tell what kind of gearbox you've got?
Hi, iv got a classic MY96 impreza WRX type RA and the gearbox has started making a ticking sound in first gear.
Im guessing its new gearbox time and im wondering if theirs any markings or numbers on my gearbox to tell me what i need as iv been told the gearbox will be different from the normal WRX. Any help would be great thanks.

The code is in the bell housing near the engine oil dipstick. It should be on a white sticker (which will probably be caked in crap)

White longish sticker. yours might be different but if you look down the top right of your engine bay, i assume this would be next to your turbo intercooler, you will see hopefully see the sticker.

the second code sounds about right, the first number looks like it could be your engine code mate. The gearbox code on your vin plate should match a white long sticker somewhere on your gearbox.
