Default Tyre Wear Please help

Hi There i was wondering if someone can help me out. I bought an 05 sti 6 months ago which had a brand new set of tyres on 4000 miles later and the front tyres are bald on inside edge with the outside edges having at least 3mm on the outsides edges. Is this normal?
the tyres are Vredestien Sessanta's assymetrics if that makes and differance?
i have been reading on hear about toe in and toe out and all the different settings that can be changed but an not really understanding it.
ld be gratefull if someone could help me out because the last thing i need to do is take it to subaru and get a big massive bill to have 4 wheel alignment if it doesnt need it.

thanks in advance

I bought my 2006 brand new fitted with bridgestone's. After 5000 miles I noticed n/s front was wearing on the outside edge. When I replaced them at 14,000 both fronts were badly worn on outside and inside edges but still plenty of tread in the middle. Tyre pressures were checked every couple of months and I am not hard when cornering.

I had the four wheels aligned by Subaru for about £60 and they said the fronts were about right, but recommended a few more pounds per square inch than the manual states. Then rear were out which I think is down to the rear shocks being replaced under warranty.

The current bridgestone fronts have been on for about 8000 and seem to be following the same wear rate.

Hope that helps

John

Prob running far too much neg camber (tops in; bottoms out) hence the heavy wear on the insides when tracking straight. The outside wear is probably previous owner cornering it like he stole it!...

I'd get your alignment checked - the cheapest thing to do in the 1st instance and really the only way of finding what's up...

Always recommended to have a 4 wheel alignment done when changing all your tyres

Yeah the 4-wheel alignment will involve checking and adjusting all the camber and toe settings, etc. I think it's charged by the hour... But prob will cost you between £70-£150 (can't remember).

I doubt it.

But got nothing to lose (except pride/face - if it bothers you that is) to forthrightly complain to the dealer...

Its something you'll have to pay for yourself, alignment can be knocked out easy due to the condition of UK roads. Get a good 4 wheel laser alignment. £50-£60 would cover it.
Try and watch it getting done also, some dodgy characters get it set up where it should be, print out the page then tighten everything up which throws the alignment out!

A top strut brace will help keep the tolerances in check whilst driving but it wont stop bumps and pot holes from throwing the alignment out again.
