Default V2 sti 555 or is it?????

Hi,
After discovering my wrx sti was in fact a ltd ed 555 this morning I have been challenged by an ebayer (it's for sale on there) to tell him what no. out of the 1000 made it is and if it really is the real thing it should have a little plaque by the gearstick ...heres his message...

series mcrae will have its distinctive plate under the ashtray in front the gear stick.

It hasn't got one and from other threads on here from people with the same car no one has mentioned this plaque before. Ours has all the features of the 555 incl the actual model no. so no doubt as to what it is but can anyone clear up the confusion about the plaque for me???

Link below is a thread from last year from a memeber with the same car just for you to see which car I also have to understand further.

https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...2-wrx-sti.html

Hope someone can help
Rachel xx

and the gc8c4ed model no.

everything the 555 had...the RA has the dccd apparently ?
this bloke on ebay says the mcrae ones should have the plate inside but i wasn't aware ours was a mcrae series ..it doesn't say it is a replica, do you think thats what he is on about? that he thinks its a replica??

the link I put in ' original....sti' bit was from an old thread on here I've re-read it loads of times and no one mentions a plate/plaque inside

WRX STi Version II 555 Sedan

Model code
GC8C4ED

Color code
53C (I think)

Options code
BKC

Engine code
EJ20GDW5PE

Transmission code
TY752VB4AA

Check the VIN plate has the above codes on. The most telling would be the "Options code": BKC - I believe this is unique to the STi v.2 555 saloon, whereas the other codes shown are not necessarily unique to this model.

So, hopefully, the "Options code" should(?) be the clincher.

For simplicity can you post up a clear pic of the VIN plate on your car?

The bloke on eBay doesn't know his Imprezas. The Series McRae is UK market car and a different special editon altogether; in a darker blue hue and with the early flat spoiler. It was the 1st ever Sp. Edn. car.

The Series McRae did however have the same Speedline 8-spoke "Safari" alloys that were offered on the 555 as an option (and which yours has). It's no doubt these alloys and the 'similar' blue paint which has confused the mort.

I'm still sure yours is a 555... just that bloke has got muddled up and has put doubt in your mind. Tell him to **** off. A lot. lol...

the guy on ebay is wrong. as above the series mcrae is a completely different car. it was a uk car and indeed had a plaque.
the 555 imprezas from japan like yours do not have a plaque. ive seen the pics of your car and it looks like a 555 to me.

I does look like a 555, with the addition of Series Mcrae Alloys (16" Speedlines) Also it's missing it's original flaps, the grille badge has been changed and I don't know if it was the later 555's than had embroidered 555 in yellow on the seats?

TBH I think £2500 would be a fair price if it comes to it. From the pictures and mileage I can't see it going for much more. I have seen them for sale as new imports for 3995-5995 but I doubt they sell for that.

Also, and I say this only as an observation, bearing in mind the farming background of the pictures, I hope it's undersealed properly.

Edit to say...seeing the above, 3k is a bl00dy good offer tbh.

I changed the badge a few weeks ago...how was i s'posed to know!!! Wanted a 'proper' subaru badge with stars on!! I also changed the mudflaps as I wanted ones with subaru written on.... oops

The seats are original as far as I know..all the other 555 ones have the same. I also thought the wheels were too???

As for the mileage, it says 99500 but was told it would still be km (although someone took a pen to the k on the dial) the old mot's state km...if it is then it's only done 62000 in miles which i reckon is low for a car on a N plate surely??? My mums S reg saab has done 125000 miles!!!!

Oh the stress!!

Rachael, it's a shame there are bids on it now, as really you should have changed the title to reflect that it's a 555 Ltd Edn and also mentioned it at the top of your description, etc., to really get the enthusiasts' attention. You only have it as footnote at the bottom - but there's nothing you can do about that now unfortunately ;(

So, as 53WRX has pointed out, it does look like it could be a Series McRae (but with the bigger wing on), even though we all know it's not - so actually can't necessarily lambast the eBay bloke for thinking that. Never mind, hope you get what you want for her...

(BTW, it's not an RA variant either. But dont worry about that.)

The alloys are standard, but they are the same as the Series Mcrae Alloys which is why the ebay fella might be confused ? Sorry I did put "with the addition" which read wrong.

Yes, 62000m is well low - you should get a good price.

Why not add more info to your description explaning that you took off the 555 mud flaps/pink 'i' STi badge, etc. It'll give more confidence to people who believe it to be a 555, but aren't necessarily sure.

lol, I was agreeing with your point in that the bloke could think it was a S.Mc., etc.

I would, less is indeed more ! you want it to appeal to someone who wants the kudos of owning a 555. Don't mention boy racers...and if you do don't highlight that it has a big 'boar' exhaust lol or dump valve.

It's up to you - you could drive away those bidders 2nd time around if you do... BUT... I reckon you'll get more interest if you do reword it properly and more clearly, yes.

Make sure the title reads:-

Subaru Impreza WRX STi Version 2 II 555 Limited Edition Saloon

...If, however, you run out of letters - after all, you may as well get in as many keywords as possible for your fees! - you could drop the "WRX", "II", "Saloon" and also change to "Ltd Edn". Just try and get in as many of the most mportant keywords as possible!

Yeah, keep it succinct and to the point and mention all the good things about the car, preferably in easy-to-read bullet point list form. Also, people aren't really interested in the personal circumstances for sale - they just want the car to be a good 'un - so cut out the waffle! :-D.

Go on, do it...

Draft out your title and description first and post it in this thread before listing the ad! That way we can refine what you need to put etc...

Mods - I have no idea if that is actually 'legal' practice! Please advise/intervene if not...

You can put a reserve on - but don't know what the min is for cars? It's normally a min of £50 I think for anything else. You have to pay a fee to do this, and it increases depending how high you go on the reserve (from memory).

Or simply don't use any reserve or BIN and wait and see the activity in the last 10-5mins. If you get cold feet, you can pull the ad for one of the various reasons allowed. This is a very bad thing to do though - it just ain't cricket! - and it won't ingratiate yourself to the eBay community if you resort to this practice too often

Your ad is fine. Just alter the first line of that last paragraph to:-

Very good clean condition for this rare and sought after enthusiast's special edition model

(or something along those lines).

The ad reads very nice and not over/undersold IMHO.

its a good idea to relist it as a 555 but dont get carried away thinking its worth a fortune. its not. ive seen these go for less than 3k before.
theres lots of japanese "limted editions" which is why they are not worth as much as people think.
theres lots of jokers on ebay selling cars like this for 6 grand but they never sell for that kind of money. You could bring over a nice v1, v2 sti or v limted from japan for very little money.
a quick look on ebay shows you can get a v limted or 555 for around 3k

good luck with the sale. persoanlaly i think the 3k offer you have is a good offer concidering how the car market is at the mo. theres lots of people who will say they will give you more but will actually mess you about or bid and then turn up and haggle.
