Unhappy Bottom End problems

Please help, my brother in law has a wrx 52 plate uk model, and run it with no oil, as you can guess a mess.Gone further and had the bearing replaced via the sump but a cowboy. It has developed into a bigger problem which is the knocking and then after driving it hard the engine stoped with smoke out the back end.
He just wants to get a recon lump, as it may be cheaper.
Can any one recommend a dealer. we live in shropshire. Cheers

There are so many bad storys about recon engines, as said above, your best of getting a recon from a well known comany like api, or evan a full rebuilt. They do both.
