Default Classic remap list

Just recently bought my first Impreza. 2000 model UK turbo with full stainless exhaust.
I've done a few searches and read up and as far as I can make out, I need;

Panel filter
Walbro fuel pump
NGK7 plugs
Bigger turbo
Remap

for around 300bhp?

I fancy one of the VF series turbos, perhaps the 28 or 30 as I believe they are the best 'bang for buck' as someone put it?

My car is going in for a full service, timing belt and clutch later in the week so I'm going to get it booked in for a remap soon after I get all my parts together.

If theres anything I've missed out, please add to my list.

Thanks

Yep, just been reading about intercoolers. Found a guide on how to fit an Sti7 intercooler onto my car. Looks pretty straight forward.

Think you may also need an ecu or chip that can be mapped, not sure you can just remap the stock ecu.

It has a full stainless on it with a decat downpipe.

Will a fuel pressure regulator and make a difference?

And what is a resonator delete? Is it the airbox in the wing?

Yes it is, you get to it from the wheel arch, just need to remove a few plugs first.

Not if 300bhp or so is your target. Walbro pump with the standard reg should be fine. Speaking of which, if that's where you're at you'd probably be better with one of Mr Farmer's(*) hybridised TD04's than the turbos you're thinking of. More robust, better spool and throttle response, and the comfort of a freshly built, warranted unit rather than something 10-12 years old and with unknown provenance.

Yes. IMHO I wouldn't be too bothered about this at least until you've settled on a mapper and have an idea of what they prefer to work with. Difference is subtle at best and can make the airflow readings fluctuate a bit, which can be counterproductive when it comes to mapping.

So can any impreza ecu be mapped without upgradeing it or is it just some? If they can then whats the advantage to buying say an apexi ecu to map?

Classics from MY99 had the remappable ecu which can be mapped via a ECUTEK map whiich will cost around the £600 mark,

I have a my00 ecu for sale if anyone is intrested

Lol yep Its quite pricely the REMAP stage, I Decided to go APEXI POWER FC for my ECU and its the best money i have spent tbh makes so much diffence being mapped.

Tbh i have seen so many Scoobs just bolt a Air filter on and no remap so you wouldnt be the only one

View my car for spec

Assuming your car is standard at the moment, no, there's plenty of stuff you can do for subtle gains. You wouldn't need to remap if, for example, changing the standard panel filter for a better one.

However, changing from a panel filter to an induction kit probably would due to changes in the airflow sensor scaling. Similarlyr swapping the standard turbo, injectors etc etc, would need you getting the ECU calibrated properly afterwards.

welcome to the world of subaru modification. this is a tear in a salty sea mate, but £600 is cheaper than a complete rebuild if you lunch the engine. have we put you off yet

nope. you could use a bleed valve like a dawes device for a bit more but mind your face on the window when fuel cut kicks in.

There would be but the magnitude and reasoning depends on the model. UK spec Impreza Turbos were traditionally supplied with very conservative (and rich) boost maps. There's plenty of potential in these to trim things out and gain a bit, even assuming the car is otherwise bog standard.

The downside though is that there's less headroom if something, for example the airflow sensor, starts to misread.

As Bigsinky says, you'd probably be better off using something like a manual boost controller on a completely standard UK car.
