Default Fuel Cut only in 4th and 5th

I picked up a 97sti on saturday, drove it hard on the test drive in 1st, 2nd & 3rd and all was well. Popped out last night for a little run and when accellerating hard in 4th and 5th I was hitting the fuel cut. I've not got a boost gauge in the car at the moment so i can'tsay what it's hitting in the lower gears, but any ideas why I'd only be hitting fuel cut in 4th and 5th and not every gear?

There's a reasonable amount of history with the car since it's been in the UK and there's not a lot in the way of engine mods. Cat back 3" system, zero sports solid intake pipe with an apexi induction kit and a voltage stabilisor kit.

It's taking all the joy out of being back in an Impreza again at the moment. Sticking to 3k revs is a bit boring

Cheers,

Matt.

I'm getting the same in my car (1996 import) fine in 1st,2nd,3rd even 4th BUT when i move into 5th say on the motorway doing around 70 - 80 and floor it i get fuel cut. My car has a dawes device set around 1 bar but the z4 ecu fuel cuts around 1.05??

I thought with the dawes it would maintain the same boost level in ALL gears obviously not.

OVER BOOSTING,

i have been getting this. my issue with my my97sti was the wastegate solinoid.

and the reason in 4th and 5th is because there is more of a load and psi is higher

did you just need to give it a clean out or get a new one?

Borrowing a boost gauge off a mate if he can find it and will grab a can of carb cleaner tonight on my way home. Hopefully that will sort it.

Might just make up some new vac lines with some silcone hosing. I'll know that they're clean and will also dress the bay up a bit.
