Default Car is a bit poorly

A few weeks ago, I thought I heard a rattle. But thought I was being paranoid...

But it has got gradually worse, and is loud now. It definitely isn't a big end bearing noise, as I've listened to a few of these.

It sounds like a heat shield rattle, which gets worse when the revs increase. BUT, I don't have ANY heat shields on my car. I sounded like it was coming from the down pipe area, so had the car up on the ramps this morn, and it isn't coming from there. It sounds like the turbo area. I've tried tightening things with my fingers, but everything seems tight......

Like I say, it's a heat shield noise, not bearing noise.

Any ideas?

Thanks

What about your actual turbo unit? could it be something like the bearings beginning to fail? Hope not. Having not heard the noise it's hard to tell. Is anything touching ie; metal to metal? Does yours have a cat in the down pipe?could it be failing causing the noise. Sorry not sure but just trying to throw ideas at you that you may not have thought of yet. Get a spanner on those bolts to check them...fingers are no good. Goodluck with that

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies!

The turbo is a MD321T, with around 4000-4500 miles on, so hope it isn't failing! The guys today tried moving and holding things to make sure nothing (what we could see) was touching etc.
I don't have any cat's, so at least we can rule that out

J77PAN, where about's is this turbo chimney?

Thanks again guys

oem bit on a classic....

Check all the bolts are still tight, mine shook a couple loose on the manifold to up-pipe joint, believe me I couldn't believe that one after the monkeying I gave them on fitting !

If you have a turbo chimney it's pretty obvious. Usually painted black (with loads flaking off) and directly above where the turbo is located. Designed to direct turbo heat from out of the bonnet scoop when in busy or slow traffic...and forces cold air on to the turbo whilst driving quickly
