Lightbulb STi Version 6 Intercooler Query 1999

Can someone tell me the difference between the standard classic shape 1999 Turbo2000 intercooler, and an STi Version 6 intercooler?

Are the two intercoolers the same size?

Does anyone who owns a genuine Version 6 STi able to post up the dimensions of the intercooler or also have any pics of the intercooler. THink this would be the same one fitted to the P1, Type-R/RA etc

I'm just wondering what the difference is, as the version6 ones for sale on ebay that I have seen for around the 300 pound mark look identical to my standard turbo2000 one>??

thanks in advance to anyone that answers

They have better cooling abilities due to the core structure over the none STI ones, so where as it can improve cooling some people just go for a new age one which are even more improved

Version 5/6 STi intercoolers have the same general dimensions as the "standard" MY99-00 one. The primary difference is in the core design, which is a little less restrictive. STi ones are also unpainted so should be silver rather than black.

TBH it's not worth paying over the odds for a V5/6 STi IC nowadays. Newage WRX ones are very cheap secondhand, and are larger (and more effective) while the newage STi one is bigger and better again. Both can be fitted into a late classic with a bit of fiddling.

So they are actually the same size then?

I was originally under the impression that the STi one was bigger somehow, either deeper or wider, but they do look the same size as the turbo2000 one?....

I know the newage STi one is definately bigger than the newage WRX one, but maybe this does not apply to the classic shapes?....

If anyone could post any engine bay pics of their version 6 STi, that would be good...

They are the same size. And I even think they have the same core design, the difference in flow capability that are mentioned are due to the STi's silicone in contrast to the wrx's plastic Y-hose.

There is no difference between a MY99 turbo 2000 intercooler & an STI version 6 TMIC - externaly 1 is painted silver & has a "Tuned by STi" sticker on it, where as the Turbo 2000 IC is black

The piping is different on the STI & that is where the differences end.

Yeah, it's basically the colour (unpainted ally STI or black-painted WRX/others), and STi badging.

Plus the STi has a metal/silicone feedpipe combo. This piping in itself allows better/more aiflow (and shouldn't split/crack).

Also, the STi's endtank may be slightly larger too. Other than that, that's your lot.
