MOCAL vs SETRAB Oil Coolers / Thermostatic plates / Oil Q’s
MOCAL vs SERAB Oil Coolers
Looking at getting a 26 row SETRAB oil cooler fitted at Chris Palmers with a thermostatic plate. I’ve been advised to go for the SETRAB over the MOCAL as a couple of the MOCAL one’s have been found to leak, and one of which had a hairline fracture in which sprayed oil back in the bay and caused a minor fire
Anyone have an opinion on either of these brands? The SETRAB does look good quality, and although not had them side by side but have been told the quality looks very good on the SETRAB when placed next to the MOCAL coolers?
Thermostatic plates
What temp do these tend to open up?
Do different plates open at different temps?
If so, would i have to choose one according to my driving style?
Oil
Would the lower average temps mean a potential change of oil due to the change in viscosity?
How much more oil would I need roughly?

Mine opens at 78 degrees.... think most will be similar.
I needed over a litre extra to fill mine...
No visible effect on the oil when I dumped it on Saturday morning.

I had a Mocal 24 Row Core oil cooler on my Classic, Abit big i know but never leaked and always done the job. Did you over tighten anything and may of split anything for it to spray oil everywhere ? (No offense But i have known this ti happen!)

I want to get an oil cooler too...where is everyone mounting them?
I have a front mount and a bigger radiator so just wondered where everyone squeezes them too?
And does anyone do a total kit to fit one?
Cheers

tmoc wouldbe a good place.
isnt anyone worried about shuving cold oil into a warm system? i mean if u think the oil is warm and so give it some, then you get some cold and hence more viscous oil intoduced into the system and still nail it wouldnt it just cause problems like nailing it from cold?
How do you get around this situation? only nail it when ur sure all the oil is circulating through the new Rad too and that is also up to temp? If so an indication as to when the new rad oil is up to temp. antoher oil temp gauge?
