Oil and water track temperatures
Hello, in order to be careful with my ageing engine (Impreza STI 2.0) what are the recommended temperatures for oil and coolant at:
Normal driving:
Track:
Temps you should not reach because something is gonna break:
Please no guess but some solid answers are appreciated...
thanks!
(Sorry if this is a recurrent topic...)

With my STi the PSi3 meter regularly shows 96-97c water temp. in day to day driving (the temp. at which the fan cuts in.) Oil temp. is often 90-100c but this is dependant on where the sender is located.
On track I've seen 120c oil temp. at which point I came in to let things cool. This figure is not a problem if you're using a good quality synthetic.

After fitting an oil cooler mine runs at around 82-86 degrees on track.
Don't want to have to worry about it !
dunx
P.S. std. water gauge, has never moved from it's "normal" position.

Dunx, do you find that your oil takes a lot longer to reach normal operating temps with your cooler fitted? Just wondering as a FMIC is on my to-do list for next year, and I like the look of your top mount oil cooler

On track, without any oil coolers and none wrapped headers, i managed to get the oil temp up to 135 where i sharp slowed down and went in the pits for it to cool...
Now ive fitted an oil cooler and wrapped the headers, i get 100 max (depending what track it is)
Anything at 120+ you should really slow down... but i would reccomend an oil cooler for track.
