Question Baffles sump advice please...

Hi Chaps and any chapesses who may be here

I'm getting the slight fear put into me in relation to tracking my classic wrx as they have no baffled sump.....

Do you know where I can get one and what I should expect to pay..... ?

Any useful advice, links or even physical sumps gratefully received.

Lateral Performance and RCM do baffled standard sumps for around £400-500 I think. Or Hyperflow do one which holds more oil and has cooling fins. Somewhere around £600ish?

Why do you think you need one?

Do you use R888 on track or road tyres?

I'm not sure that I do need one, this is the thing. At the moment I am trying to source a spare set of wheels and tyres - ideally I'd like to get semi slicks.....

Why do you ask... ? I assume it is to do with how well the car sticks to the tarmac hence how much the oil gets chucked about..?

Seriously?!

Think i'll take my chances initially of starving the engine of oil if this is the cost..

Yeah a well set up car for the track may suffer with oil surge in the hands of a capable driver AFAIK.

It might be easier/cheaper to fit some decent oil pressure gauges with alarms (defi for eg) and see how you get on.

Nice.

To the OP - if you are quick enough on track you will get oil surge full stop.

ASP do a modified std sump for very little money - it is better than nothing but not fully baffled. Ie it will help but not cure the issue.

Lateral / RCM do properly baffled std sumps for around £400. Work very nicely (i run a Lateral Performance one on mine).

Aftermarket baffled sumps are more expensive still but ultimately they are all fighting the laws of physics and when speed and grip outweighs what the sump can provide, you have an issue.

Dry sump is the full solution but at a cost.

The cosworth baffle plate will help but I would run that aswell as the other chosen sump. Don't lose an engine for the sake of a few hundred quid.
