Question 08 / 09 Sti Engine limits ???

Hi folks....

Gotta lotta questions regarding the new 2.5 Sti lump...

1. Why does it produce more power than the last shape 2.5 - is it all done to the valves / heads or what ?

2. What is the standard boost - 1.0 bar ?

3. it seems that with only a remap 330-340bhp is easily achieved @ 1.4 bar and with an induction kit even more is available. Then full exhaust and you're talking about 380bhp and similar torque. 'Mog' remapped his ppp car, added an induction kit and blasted his way into the 380's, so did Rob84 but he used a full exhaust to get there. 'Some experts' have said that at 380bhp the engine is unstable and the bit between the cylinder bores gets a bit liable to break. 'Other experts' say 380 - 400bhp is safe and do-able @ 1.5 bar. My question is what is it that makes the engine "supposedly wobbly" at 380 - the fact that the boost is too high at 1.5 and the pistons dont like that - or is it just that the power is too much ?

One of Harveys mates (tuning garage owner) got high 380's and over 400lbs torque with magnex exhaust, induction kit, and remap only.

Or howabout exhaust, induction, harvey ported headers and flow matched up-pipe and remap at 1.35 - 1.4 bar to get to 380 - would that be safe or is 380+ the bogeyland?

I also understand that the jdm based T20 have basically 'the same pistons' as the european and USA versions (not forged), so why is it ok for the jap car to get to 395 bhp and not ours ?

Just seems that 395bhp is certainly nigh on obtainable with standard turbo, full exhaust, induction kit, ported headers and up-pipe, and custom ecutek remap @ 1.5 bar.

THANKS in advance for your imput and answers

Lightbulb official bounce...

To add to the above and give it a bounce....

I mean, thinking back a year or three and the mighty T25 was at 350/350 - and that was considered the absolute bees knees.

It just seems too easy to surpass that with so little serious mods.

Anyone...

No chance of getting anything above 350-360 max on standard turbo. Unless your using a mapper who's quoting 25% transmission loss

The JDM doesnt have the same pistons (nor half the same engine parts ) so thats why it can run 4-500bhp over the 2.5ltr.
