Default cooling fan information please?

Hi had my wrx import 97 for around a month now. just noticed today that when i stop and turn the car off the fan wont come on but if i stop turn the car off but leave the power on in the car (electrics) after a minute the fan kicks in... is this wrong. i'm not a hundred percent on whether I should be leaving the power on to cool the car down properly. Any help is appreciated...

That's all normal, just turn it off. When the engine isn't running, the water isn't being pumped around so all you are cooling is the water in the radiator.

Is the noise, like... how to describe it??... like theres a whale trapped under your bonnet??

I get that on mine, like a very low pitch 'woooo' noise, not a whistle

I know i'm not helping but i'd be interested to know what this is aswell.

I just found this post, looking for a view on exactly this. Pulling up at my house this evening, I noticed again that the fan cuts out as soon as I switch off the engine, but if I turn the ignition on again (without starting) the fan kicks in and there's lots of warm air circulating around the wheel arches.

I was interested/reassured to read the above view, but it still leave me wondering why other cars I have had behaved differently. Unless I remember incorrectly, the fans on all of the other cars I have had kicked in after switching off completely and then ran for a couple of minutes.
