att/manual switch
hi..just gought a 1993 import impreza wrx wagon its an auto with sport box and theres a little switch on the top left of the console marked att/manual???
when youswitch it to manual there is a green light on the dash that says MANUAL but i have ot driven it like this as i don't no what it means so just left it in auto
how do i use it/what does it do??

its to do with the electronically controlled front / rear torque split which is fixed at 50/50 ish on a manual tranny but with the auto's VTD system, which I think your WRX has, is controlled by computer.
Switching into "manual" locks the VTD to 50/50 I think ( or as near as makes no difference ) to help in muddy type conditions, it does make a difference when towing horse boxes across muddy fields but other than that I never bother with it as active VTD is probably better in all conditions.
If your spinning the front wheels off the line perhaps try it in manual ?
basically its a bit like a lockable centre diff but a bit more simplistic.
I dont think it would do any harm driving around with it in "manual" but "auto" i.e. no light on the dash is definately how its designed to run most of the time.
