Default Adding Oil

Right, when i usually change oil, i fill the oil filter up first, bit of oil on the seal ring and put on car, then fill the engine up with oil...

Now im fitting an oil cooler to the car, so i will fill the oil filter up, but how are you supposed to do the oil cooler?

Do you not need to do this (just put the car on ignition and allow the oil pump to just fill the cooler and leave it on ignition for a while to get air out of of all the usual places?

disconnect the crank position sensor and then turn it over with no spark to build pressure and purge the system.
