Unhappy subaru bonnet latch issue

hi all.

i have purchased a subaru classic year 99 t reg non turbo
the prob i have is the bonnet will not lock down, its only held by the first safety catch, the bonnet cable moves up and down on a spring but does not seem to do anything regarding the latch mechanism.

does anyone know what could be wrong here as i am lost! i took the complete latch unit off the car and soaked it overnight got all the dirt out of the springs and it all moves free ok, but back on car, close down bonnet and its just not clipping into place only the first latch holds it.

any help appreciated.thankyou.

Have you tried adjusting the alignment of the latch/hook?

hi.when you say adjust the latch/hook?
i am a bit confused here. you have the first latch which just holds the bonnet then another under that which the latch closes into and locks it down of should do, you just push the bonnet or slam it down but it will not lock down, only the safety one seems to work!
thanks.

if you loosen bolts holding the latch to the panel you should get slight movement. Same for the hook on the bonnet.
