Cool

Hi All

I'm also interested to hear views on this as mines being 'linked' at the end of the month. I'm leaning towards the K&N due to worries about the filtration properties of HKS ....

Cheers

Ask Bob or Branco - I believe they recommend HKS

I've had one fitted for 25,000 miles. I do not have a link and I still have the original MAF sensor and it has given me no problems whatsoever.

...and remember the Link doesn't use the MAF....

Thanks

Plantie,

I assume you have (like me) the std RB5? Was it the cost savings that made you chose the Link route and not a PPP? How do Dealers react to these things being fitted?

I've ordered a generic K&N cone filter, which I will use a bit of silicone hose to connect to the inlet....and bodge up some sort of way to keep it in place.

...and keep the MAF in a safe place for when IM runs out of stock.

*LOL*

Ozzy,

As Plantie isn't about - he already has an RB5 WR therefore with PPP, but wants more

More with a link than with a PPP? Ummm...the gains won't be enormous if he hasn't some other mod lined up. Like say...a turbo..

Red face

SJ,

That's interesting; wasn't expecting that one. So what exactly is a "linked" scooby?? Is it a replacement ECU or a piggy-back job?

If he's replacing the ECU, I'd happily take it off his hands - for a small fee of course

/J - did I forget to mention that Not sure when but I think hes on the lookout for one.....

Ozzy - The PPP is a replacement ecu, intercooler piping and exhaust. The link package is a replacement mapable ecu and I think needs to be fitted with a knock gauge and afr gauge (knocklink and lambdalink). It is then mapped to the car and the owners requirements by say Bob Rawle. Any major mods to the car and the ecu needs remapping to take them into account.

I'm sure he'll probably be keeping the ECU to return the car to standard if he sells it, but he'll know that better than me!!

SJ,

Thanks. I've been looking at upgrading my RB5 with the PPP, so I understand that it isn't just an ECU upgrade. My original question just concerned the ECU's - what is the difference between a std ECU and a Prodrive'd one?? (as supplied with the PPP). Is the logic boards completely different, is the EEPROM different, etc..

If there isn't any technical difference, then why couldn't a standard ECU be re-mapped and effectively become a Prodrive ECU ala PPP???

If the man does want to finance his mods, then I'll give him some good money for the ECU - no harm in asking afterall

Cheers,
Stefan

Blitz has the highest airflow out of all of them but also has the worse filtration qualaties, sounds fantastic tho

APS Uses the inner wing method with a K&N Cone on it, looks very neat.

Ozzy - The main difference I know of with the PPP is that it holds higher boost and the ECU fuel cut is lifted to about 19PSi against the standard cars 17.5 I think. Don't really know much more about the differences but I think the ECU is still the same type as the standard car, just with the Prodrive map on it instead....

Someone will know this better than I so I'll wait to be corrected

P - The APS cold air would be nice - but watch out for puddles

Unhappy

Plantie, you really know how to break a man's heart

SJ,

Seems strange that no-one has just re-mapped them then - other than the legal implications of course

Stefan

Plantie,

Wot the APS? - Yeah, if you contact them direct they can ship you one out from the land of Oz, I think New Age were selling them but with them not around anymore there isnt a UK distributor anymore, could be mistaken, when I was considering getting one I mailed them directly they got back to me very quick, $300 AUS + shipping I think, don't quote me on that tho!

Plantie,

You can get the APS from New Age Motorsport

BTW this is the one Moe was talking about on Sunday.

I am certain that New Age are no more, Maybe someone can verify that?

They were the only distributor for APS in the UK, so at present unless one comes up on the board or you don't want to order from down under that leaves you a bit buggered.

I said that without moving my mouth

Cheers Jawa!

Turbo will come as will injectors, maybe even FMIC!

PPP will stay, as will revert to standard one day! (what a rhyme!)

But thanks for the interest!

Any way back to the HKS/K&N/Blitz issue? no-one has mentioned Blitz yet and also no pros/cons either?

I have no idea if Moe has it on his!

I know Peter (PTholt has), Bob Rawle, I beleive Branko may have one on his....Andy Tang had one, I presume Moe (Topcat) has one too...Adam M had one for sale too...so they must be pretty good if these guys have had them / Still got them

go to http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/wrx/airfilter.htm

(sorry i am a retard and cant do links)!!

I hovever have pushed the boat out after having a Blitz, Just had a K&N induction kit (Very impressed with that) but now have a BMC Carbon Dynamic Airbox from Jamie at Performance Exhausts, hopefully putting on tonight / tomorrow, so will let u know how i get on
