Default ECU question

I have a 93 import WRX, definately an import as theres jap writing everywhere and its too clean to be a 16 year old uk car. I wanted to see if I could use a PP chip so set about checking my ecu, its a 7D and although this does have an empty EPROM slot I've done some checking and this ECU was only supposed to be in Aus/Euro Impreza's.

Just wondered if anyone had encountered this before or had any thoughts?!

I know its possible in 16 years that the ecu has been swapped but other than that??

Cheers

Stu

Hi mate, i've got the same car running a PP chip, best move i made.

Get in touch with Scott.T either on here or through his web site. He is well clued up on this as he developed the chip. He does a good deal on exchange ECU with the DIL socket fitted ready to roll

Yes.

Even if your JDM car has a UK ECU in it, the PP chip overides the OEM map anyway (must cut the J1 resistor wire too to be able to read from PP chip).

Basically, you can stick the PP chip into any phase 1 MY93-96 4-plug ECU and it'll work.

I was actually wanting to know if having a UK ecu in a Jap car is a common sight, but its good to know the PP chip will drop straight in too!

Oh sorry.

No - it's a step backwrd.

The UK ECUs' maps are designed around the small TD04 turbo, so if it's used in a WRX or STi saloon, then it could be dangerous, as the fuelling may be way to lean for their bigger turbos, for example. Not to mention the UK ECU's low boost setting of about 0.7bar, etc...

Beat me to it

IIRC the 7D is c.208 bhp

as opposed to the Z4 @ c.260 bhp

edit: You will certainly feel the difference from 208bhp

7d is the incorrect ecu for a 93wrx it should be U8,W6 or maybe 2C but as mentioned the PP chip will run the car whilst retaining the OE diagnostics.
