New steering rack....Judder... help!
Hi All.
Ive just changed my rack for a new one, now ive fitted it all, put the fluid in, and turned the steering wheel quite a bit to bleeed it out.
Now when i turn right i get a judder. when stationary.
So i took it for a spin and the symtoms wore off a bit, however i still got a judder when doing a sharp right turn.
Is this a symptom that the new rack is shagged?
Could it be the trres pulling against each other as the tracking is off?
Could it be there is still some air in the system?
I will get the car tracked tomorrow on my lunch break, and go from there. However if anyone has fitted a rack any words of wisdom would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
CHris

When you purged the system by rotating the steering wheel lock to lock for a few times, did you then recheck the fluid reservoir's level? If not, do so - you may have bled a lot of air out of the system (because of the rack change - thus lots of air potentially reintroduced) and the level may have gone right down again. Just a (tenuous) thought...

yeah checked all the levels religously.
The judder is much much reduced today, only happened when very slow, very quick tight turn, and only slight judder. I also get the feeling its the tyres pulling against each other.
Hoping to get it tracked at lunch and test driven further. Local kwik fit should do a good enough job i hope of toe alignment.
