Default Clutch change

Hiya, was just lookin for a little advise regardin fittin a new clutch, shuld i fit a genuine one or would a patternb one be ok, i did a little price huntin(im Ex Trade but can still get pattern parts for trade price), i went to a couple local auto part suppliers and got a couple quotes, one said £250+ VAT....... The other said £240 all in...... So tried my local Scooby Specialist (Ridge Way Garage, they were a Subaru dealer before they lost the franchise but they can still get parts) and they gave me a rough price of £380 for a clutch kit........... So now im wonderin if its better to pay the extra knowin that il have bought a proper clutch from a dealers or do i just fit pattern??????????

The pattern parts are just as good if not better cus of the price! Gen. parts aren't made my dealers anyway, they buy them in (normaly from the same ppl as make non gen) and stamp their name on it, BUMP up the price and stick it in their own box!! E.G Pud/Citroen use Mahle parts, Fuel filter from parts supplier like JMC £4 from Pug £15 both Mahle filters just in different boxes. Same goes for all parts inc. LUK or Sash etc clutches

If you where in the trade thought you would know this bud!

P.S I dont mean to sound condescending!!

Cheers for the advice Hobstar82, think il be lookin at gettin a pattern one, hellova lot cheaper!!!!

Also got a interestin bit info for any one else who's clutch is on it way out, accordin to Blue Print they say that if the cars been used "enthusiastically" the flywheel may also need changin due to heat damage, this will affect the new clutch once fitted and shorten it's life if not changed at the same time. My parts supplier said they culd get one for about £350 odd.

Nah im not offended, im thick skinned. Only reason why i asked if it was better to get a genuine one was cos sum manufartures in house their parts eg brake components, Subaru make thier own while if u compare Evo's (il wash my mouth out in a mo), they out source them by usin Brembo for their brakes.

A standard Subaru Clutch is an Excedy Clutch which can be purchased from loads of places, regarding the flywheel I think you can get them skimmed for a lot less than a new one.
Milky bar Kid check out the Drivetrain section theres lots of info about clutchs and there are dealers who would be able to give you good quotes

If you go genuine, subaru dealer, they wont hold the warranty on the clutch if you dont get a new flywheel at the same time,so if it judders they wont re-do the work free

What model/year is your car?

We sell genuine Exedy clutches from £146.99 delivered.

Flywheel may need skimming to remove heat spots (not replacing).

The prices quoted by the OP do look a little steep around £150 is more what I would expect

Will need to check if the Flywheel has been skimmed in the past or get a used one skim and fit at the same time The skim/sell the old one

I personally would only skim once. As it is not only heat spots that ius an issue over time the Flywheel can warp slightly.

Is the clutch change on a scooby more or less the same as another car or does it need to be done by a specialist?

Would rather it done by someone that has a Scoob in once in a blue moon or someone that works on them day in day out is the question.

More or less the same. Box just weighs more than the average one.
