Default 02 STi PPP - to Decat or Not

Hi

My 02 STi PPP is booked in with Andy Forrest for a Ecutek next month.

I have been told the PPP cat will rob me of 10bhp over the full decat - is it worth it, not just the extra bhp but does it affect the car in any other way at all (apart from MOT time)?

The PPP was only fitted in 2006, so I could sell the Prodrive cat on (my MOT tester is a nice man)

Recomendations also for a downpipe - seen a few on Ebay, are they to be avoided.

To match up to a H&S Centre and TSL Firestorm Backbox.

PPP on a Bugeye STi is already 305PS .........i'd fully de-cat to get as much gain you can for the cost of the EcuTeK re-map

PM Harvey for a good downpipe and get the headers ported there too

If it is a Prodrive pipe I would be suprised if there is a cat in there,JDM STI played the same game, exhaust has all the right outside shapes but no insides!it was all done on the mapping. The cat only works when it is really hot so does not affect mot!The only time it will fail MOT if the inspector sees no cats so he will fail it.My STI JDM has no cats at all MOT emissions lower than 3 yr old cars, but my hc are 325 ppm according to log book ie £400 road tax.Way to check drop joint off bottom of down pipe push plastic hose up see if it goes past the bulge where cat should be,dont push to far ie turbo

Wink EXhaust

My sti jdm standard ecu, stainless TSL system front to back, panel filter no underwing pipe work ie snorkle removed uprated fuel pump plus reg 315 BHP 280 FTLB + 30 MPG 17PSI boost
remap 340bhp 20 mpg maybe.Just a thought replace header with equal length babies then wrap this will give quick spool up good torque etc.One thing to be careful of because the STI uses ball bearing turbo they spin up a lot faster than normal you need a cat in the down pipe to stop over boost and spiking a problem sometimes to remove even with a remap

Hi fella,

I de-catted mine as I neared 400 bhp.... at 340 bhp it was fine on a sports cat, it know seems a little more responsive, to throttle movements, ignoring the power increase.

HTH

Default cats

The cats were designed for power up to 350HP you are dead right after that they turn into sparklers,a good remap is far better.Going back to the 70s when cats first came in they were based on cars driving in LA where ambient air temp was 30s so uk cars the cats never got hot enough to even work.I have done lots of work on wheels over the years and come to realise the quicker you get the exhaust out the more power providing you can get air and fuel in, regards
