Oil squirters where fitted to closed deck blocks found on some early STI models.

Stick to a closed deck block with oil squirters, as they're the stronger block.

And you will not find these EJ20G type blocks after 1996 they will have to be pre 96. The hatching on the oil filter body part of the engine is the give away to a closed deck block. There will also be some hatch markings above the oil pump on the engine blocks. None of the other hatchings mean anything.

Just double check the clearence between the base of the piston skirt and oil squirter, they can catch!

They will catch on after market pistons which have not been specced correctly. This could be due to pistons or rods.

In standard form there should never be an issue with this.
