Classic oil leak???
Been getting a few drops of oil under my 98 classic lately so thought i would have a look at it. When i removed the plastic cover from under the engine it was pretty well caked in oil and also the bottom of the motor. I know its not the rocker cover gasket cause i replaced them less then a month ago and they are all dry. Seems like its coming from behind the timing belt cover. First thought is crank pulley oil seal but is there anything else in there that can leak? Gonna strip it down next week and do the cam belt and a service any advice welcome.

Is it dropping down onto the under tray in the middle at the front of the engine? If its the crank seal I would expect to see smoke coming from the front grill on tick over as it tends to burn off quickly. I could tell on mine as I had smoke coming out of the grill and oil on the under tray as you describe. If you can get your hand down between the radiator and the timing cover there is a small black pipe (not sure what it is) but this was covered in oil on mine. Just worth a look and for peace of mind as your doing a cam belt change you could change the crank seal at the same time, the only cost around £7.
