02 STI PPP Not running right :(
Hey guys
This is my first Scooby and gotta say i love it, but i seem to be having some problems and dont have a scooby whats wrong!
Raced an 01 WRX standard the other day (supposedly only runnin 220 bhp) and had trouble keeping up, thought i was kicking 300????
Engine is a bit jumpy and seems to mis fire on idle, so im thinking new sparks?? How the hell do i get to them for a start lol. Done an oil change, air filter change but now stumped as to why its running so slow.
As the turbo spools i can hear noise coming through from the engine bay and its a bit difficult to describe, but its not a nice noise lol, little worried the turbo may be on the way out. After a good hard drive, the turbo seems to spool earlier in the rev range and the noise disappears. Anyone got any ideas as to what this is?
Also, if someone can explain where to find the spark plugs on this thing and let me know how easy they are to get to and change, it would be most appreciated (tried searching the forum but couldnt find anything for this model)
Cheers in advance

Don't know how much for a newage but it was £83 for my W-Reg classic - main dealer jobby.

The newage MAF which made by Denso is quite a good strong unit, rarely fails. But I have seen quite a few tho..
Or you can always clean it with a Brake disc cleaner (Crab cleaner). to test it tho, unplug the wire from the MAF while the car is in idle. if the engine stalls, then in most cases the MAF is ok, (Cleanable) if the engine keeps running then the MAF, I am afriad you need a replacement.
By doing this tho you will generate 2 error code PO102 & PO113 in the memory but will do you no harm.

otherwise you could do with a OBD2 cable and a Laptop with ECUexplore or pay 49 pound to subaru to get it scan. this will take you to the right direction.
